This is a survey course of American History beginning with the expedition of Columbus through the end of Reconstruction. Major focus will be on Colonialism and its impact on American Identity, the formation and influences of American Government and the growth of Federalism.

The course objectives for the entire year are listed below:
  1. Objective 1:Use research and inquiry skills to analyze American History using primary and secondary sources.
  2. Objective 2:Examine the causes, course, and consequences of British settlement in the American colonies.
  3. Objective 3:Demonstrate an understanding of the causes, course, and consequences of the American Revolution and the founding principles of our nation. To include the functions and organization of government and the role of the citizen in the American political system.
  4. Objective 4:Demonstrate an understanding of the domestic and international causes, course, and consequences of westward expansion.
  5. Objective 5:Examine the causes, course, and consequence of the Civil War and Reconstruction including its effects on American peoples.
  6. Objective 6: Use maps, charts and other geographic representations, tools and technology to report information.

The nine week periods will be divided up as follows:
  1. Colonization, Settlement and Expansion & The French & Indian Wars.
  2. The French & Indian Wars and The American Revolution
  3. The American Government & Westward Expansion
  4. States’ Rights vs. Federalism & the Civil War and Reconstruction.
